Hey babes! Happy May!
I get asked about how I curl my hair practically every day am I am FINALLY posting a tutorial with my process! You can also find this in my IG highlights and IGTV! I started this video with air-dried hair, and if you want to look back on my post a few months ago, I go over the best way to air-dry your hair! Starting off with non-frizzy hair really helps! I also do have hair extensions, in case you’re wondering, and I talk all about which ones I use in this post here. Anyway, here is my general process and the products that I love to use for curls with volume!
Curls With Volume Products:
1.Dry Shampoo
Start with air dried hair. I always use my dry shampoo (this is my favorite!) on days 1 and 2 after washing my hair because the shampoo will absorb your oils SO MUCH better on day 1 or 2 than it will on day 3 or 4! Lift a layer of your hair and spray your roots a few times and massage it in just a little.
2. Serum
Next, I always use serum on my hair before I start curling! It really doesn’t matter which one you use, there are a lot of really good ones out there! This one was the Kerastase Serum. Just squirt a little on your hands and work it into your hair, starting from about half way down to your ends. Make sure you never put serum near your roots or it will make your hair look super oily.
3. Flat Iron
Before I start curling, I usually use a flat iron (here’s the one I use) just near the roots of my hair to smooth out anything frizzy or wavy at the top.
4. Curl
I love using the T3 1-1.5 in barrel curling iron. It has a little bit of a tighter curl, which I love because it makes my curls last for several days! It’s also a really hot iron, so I don’t have to hold each piece for super long as I curl.
I don’t section my hair off (you can if you want to!) and I’ll just start in the front and grab about a 1.5 inch chunk of hair. Clamp the curling iron about halfway up the section of hair and curl it up toward your roots as close as you can get. Hold that for a moment and then slide the curling iron down (leave about 2 inches out at the end!) and curl it up to the roots again. After holding that for a moment let the curl out.
Do this progressively just by chunks of hair toward the back until one side of your hair is all curled and then do the same on the other side. These curls will look almost like ringlets at first, but don’t worry! After we curl everything we separate the hair and it looks like beachy waves. For this curl, I’m curling each chunk away from my face, but sometimes switching up the direction can be cute too!
5. Serum and Dry shampoo again!
After everything is curled, I apply a little more serum to my hair, again starting about mid way down to the ends. As I apply the serum I work my fingers through my hair and it kind of naturally separates the curls. The last thing I do is spray my hair a few times with dry shampoo for texture. That’s it! Super easy and super cute, and it lasts for at least 3 days! Let me know if you guys have any questions!!
Thanks for stopping by!
