Christmas Bucket List
I can not even believe that Christmas is right around the corner! I think that we are all excited to have something to look forward to and feel the joy that the Christmas season brings. One of our very favorite things to do every year is make a Christmas Bucket List of all of the must have activities that we want to do as a family throughout the month of December. We don’t always get to every single item on the bucket list, but we try to fit in as many as possible. I love that this Christmas bucket list gets our kids so excited and each item on our list helps to get us all in the Christmas spirit! You can download a copy of our bucket list for your family right HERE.

Christmas Kickoff Party
You can make your Christmas Kickoff party as simple or as complex as you would like. I would suggest holding your party as close to the beginning of December as possible to get the kids extra excited and in the holiday mood! A few things you could include in your party; Christmas pajamas (that way they get to wear them the whole month of December… check out our favorites in THIS post), a Christmas craft, Minute-To-Win-It games, Christmas movie, you could frost sugar cookies or make gingerbread houses at the party as well. We always love to wear our Christmas sweaters to the party and the “judges” pick a crowd favorite that wins a prize!
Write letters to Santa
I swear my kids started writing their letters to Santa back in October (thank you Amazon holiday toy catalog), but we are going to write our official letters to Santa the first week of December! I love to have them write it on cute stationary then we go to the post office to mail them off. A lot of communities also have North Pole drop off locations that you can google and see if they are available in your area. I like to make sure that my kids tell Santa thank you in their letter as well. That way they’re not solely focused on everything that they want.

Sleepover by the tree
This is such a fun and easy way to get everyone in the Christmas spirit! I mean can you think of anything more magical than sleeping under the beautifully lit Christmas tree with all of your best friends? I don’t know one child who wouldn’t love to get to sleep under the Christmas tree with their family.
Sing Christmas carols
“There is no better way to spread holiday cheer than singing loud for all to hear”, right? Singing Christmas carols as a family is so special and instantly brings the Christmas spirit into our home. Choosing some songs about Jesus Christ is also a great way to remind everyone the real reason for the season.
Look at Christmas lights
I absolutely love looking at Christmas lights and so do my kids. Writing a specific night on the calendar to look at the lights as a family gives them something to look forward to and makes it even more special.
Make sugar cookies
Making and eating sugar cookies makes my mouth and my eyes water all at the same time. Sugar cookies are delightful and the memories that are made making them with the ones that you love are treasures that you will want to hang on to forever. I love getting fun holiday colored frosting (or you can make it) and Christmas cookie cutters. My kids get so excited to cut out all of the cookies and decorate them on their own!

Watch Christmas movies
We try to watch our favorite Christmas movies all month long. There are so many great classics that sometimes it’s almost hard to fit them all in. A few of our favorites are: The Grinch, Elf, Santa Clause, Fred Clause, White Christmas, etc… If you have a favorite that I missed I would love for you to leave it in the comments.
Donate to someone in need
This one can be as big or small as you want it to be! I love fitting in as many service oriented events as possible during the month of December. I believe that it’s so important to teach your kids the value of service and focusing on others. There are a million ways to serve, but if you are looking for ideas specific to where you live, justserve.org is a great resource.
Write grandparents a letter
I don’t know one grandparent who wouldn’t absolutely love receiving a letter from their sweet grandchildren in the mail. It’s always so fun to see the sweet messages that my kids come up with and how excited they get to send an actual letter in the mail.
Bake treats for a friend
The holidays are the perfect time to bake and I love seeing how excited my kids get when they get to choose a neighbor, friend, or family member to take our baked goods to.
Read Christmas books in mom and dad’s bed
For some reason there is something so special to our kids about getting to cuddle in our bed. We love reading Christmas stories all month long. Then adding in the extra fun factor of reading them in our bed gets everybody so excited!
Have a Christmas music dance party
You know how much I love to dance! You just can’t be in a bad mood while you’re dancing. I love sharing my love for dancing with my kids and there are so many fun Christmas songs that are perfect for shaking a leg to.
Make a Christmas craft
Christmas crafts are a fan favorite in our house! You can go as simple or complex as you want on this one. Pinterest has one million cute ideas. The hardest part is choosing only one to do!
Have a sleepover by the Christmas tree
Sleeping under the lights by the Christmas tree is a magical tradition that all kids love and remember. It’s such a special way to connect and bond as a family.
Make gingerbread houses
If you have little kids there are a lot of grocery stores where you can buy the pre-made kits (get them and it will make your life so much easier) or you can be an overachiever and make your own gingerbread. Whichever you choose to do, your kids will be so excited!
Drink hot cocoa
Drinking hot cocoa together is such a fun and simple way to feel the Christmas spirit! We love adding marshmallows and candy canes to our hot chocolate to add extra holiday cheer.
I hope that this simple Christmas Bucket List can help you create memories with the ones you love most through the month of December.
