Blogging has become such a huge industry over just the past 10-15 years. So many people are out there supporting their families solely based off income made from becoming a blogger. Instagram has played a huge part in this massive blowup of bloggers. I posted about why I started blogging about a year ago, and I wanted to talk a little bit more about how I’ve made it work for me in my life. Specifically, how I’ve created a following. Also check out this post on why and how I started blogging!

1. Work Within Your Life

Being a blogger is a huge commitment. Once you make the decisions to start, you’re signing yourself up to post content daily (most of the time) on Instagram. Some people have lives where they can go get professional photos of their outfit every day and that works for them, but that would definitely not work for me or my family. We would not be happy campers! We take probably just as many regular old iPhone photos as we do with our nice camera. That works with my life, but you need to find what will work within your lifestyle.

2. Giveaways

Giveaways can be gold if you play them the right way. You need to find the right giveaways for your audience. For example if you’re a mommy blogger, don’t do a giveaway that is targeted toward a younger generation because it won’t do you any good. Find other bloggers from a similar audience and work with them.  If you’re not getting contacted directly to join a giveaway, take the initiative to invite other similar bloggers to create a giveaway of your own. Go in on an item that makes sense for your following (I’ve found that things like Nordstrom gift cards and makeup do really well for me) and offer it as a giveaway with your fellow bloggers.

3. Target Audience

I mentioned this a little in the last point, but when you create your blog’s content, you need to find your target audience. For example, my target audience is largely other mom’s in similar life situations to myself. Based on who you’re targeting and what kinds of followers you already have, create content that will interest them. By doing this, you’ll get higher engagement and will have more success.

Just realize that this can be really hard! I’m still trying to figure it out with instagrams algorithm. Some days feel like I’ve got it and I’ll get great engagement, and some days I totally don’t.

It’s a learning journey, that’s for sure! But I have found a lifestyle that works for me and my family and we’ve been blessed enough to be able to make some extra money off of the blogging work that we do. Let me know if you have any questions!!
