Home Make-over Reveal! Part One

Dress | Denim Jacket | Lace Up Booties

Hey everyone!  I have been so excited to show you the before and after photos of my home make-over project.  We moved into this house last year and because we are renting it, I don’t have control over a lot of things in the house.  One of my good friends, Kaylee, has her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, so I enlisted her to help me tackle this re-decorating project!

My personal interior design style is very modern.  Because we are renting I didn’t have control over “the bones” of the house, (ie: flooring, paint color, structural elements, etc.)  The style of the house and it’s “bones”, combined with my personal contemporary taste in design weren’t aligning when we first moved in, which is why this whole make-over started!  Kaylee selected items for me that helped bring in my modern taste that I wanted, but with a more mid-century modern feel to help blend the styles together in this older house.

Starting out in the entryway!  The mid-century modern style table from Walker Edison is absolutely gorgeous and brings in the most beautiful warm tone.  The artwork on the wall is from Minted and I’m so in love with all the pieces!  I especially love the gold foil map of Utah that is an homage to our roots and where our family came from!  I don’t love the tile in the entryway, so we covered most of it with a new large area rug.

The living room has a massive rock fireplace and a very dated ceiling fan that we couldn’t touch or fix in any way.  But I think all the selections in the room made it all work and come together seamlessly!  I love the balance that adding the two shelving units brought on both sides of the fireplace.  A tip from Kaylee is to always keep symmetry in mind when decorating.  Things that are symmetrical will always be more pleasing to the eye.

The large sectional sofa needed an extra large coffee table to fill the space.  Instead of selecting one giant coffee table, we chose to use these two coffee tables from Article and layered them to fill up more space.  I love how it looks and is a fun and unique way to style!

The area rug is from Rugs USA and I love the foundation it brings to the room.  For the gallery wall I used Framebridge to create a fun gallery of my favorite family photos.  Check them out for sure if you are wanting to create a beautiful photo wall, the quality of their photos and frames are amazing.  Here is a promo code for anyone wanting to try out Framebridge!  To save 15% on your first Framebridge purchase use code: girlinyellow15

The curtains are from Minted and it’s amazing how much it helps to frame out your windows with curtains!  Another tip from Kaylee is to always hang them up high and out far, so that when the curtains are pulled open they never cover up any of the window.  It makes your windows look larger and ceilings look taller by doing that.

The gorgeous dining table and chairs are from Walker Edison and the unique bowl on the table is from Modernica.  I love how these first few rooms all came together and am excited to finally feel settled in this house!  Stay tuned for the next two room reveals!
