How To Create A Pregnancy Capsule

HOW TO CREATE A PREGNANCY CAPSULE

I don’t know about you but I am so grateful that tent-like maternity clothes are a thing of the past.  Growing a baby is hard work and so is dressing the growing body that comes with it.   Luckily, we live in a day and age where pregnancy has never looked better.  There are so  many amazing maternity clothing options out there that accentuate all of the right places and help you to feel good about your ever changing body.  This is why I am so excited to show you how to create a pregnancy capsule wardrobe.

Now that I am on my fourth pregnancy I have finally figured out how to nail my pregnancy capsule wardrobe.  I have learned that it is so important to choose key pieces that you can wear from the moment you find out that you are pregnant until you are holding that little one in your arms.  Picking timeless, practical pieces will make spending a little extra money on maternity clothes 100% worth it.  Here are a few of my favorite staples to help get you started on creating the perfect pregnancy capsule wardrobe.

A guide to all of the essentials that you need to create the perfect maternity capsule wardrobe.www.thegirlintheyellowdress.com

LEGGINGS

Picking a good pair of maternity leggings will make ALL the difference.  I live in leggings before, during and after my pregnancies.  Which means that the cost per wear on them is usually pennies.  I love maternity leggings because they suck you in and hold you up!  They are great support when you have a bump and they are great for sucking you in after delivery when things may not be as tight as they were before.  I would suggest buying a couple of pairs of really nice leggings that you love and a pair of biker shorts as well.  This will give you a reliable rotation.

BODYCON DRESSES

Bodycon dresses are a major trend right now and for good reason.  They are incredibly versatile, making them super easy to dress up or dress down.   I love how they show off my bump in a very flattering way.  Also, the side ruching is magic and makes them incredibly flattering before, during and after pregnancy.

JACKETS/CARDIGANS

I love adding a few staple jackets and cardigans to my pregnancy wardrobe capsule.  They dress up any outfit, are incredibly flattering, and easy to wear during the postpartum stages.  I try to choose basic colors like tan or black so that they can be used for multiple outfit options.

TOPS

Maternity tops can be tricky, because you don’t want something too boxy or over-sized but you also don’t want them to be too tight or else they may not fit through your entire pregnancy.  When choosing a maternity top I try to pick a flattering neckline and arm coverage.  This helps to highlight areas that aren’t growing quite as fast.  Again, bold prints or patterns are not nearly as flattering as plain subtle tops.

JUMPSUITS

I love wearing jumpsuits with a bump.  If you find the proper waistline for your bump then a jumpsuit is a very flattering option.  When looking for a jumpsuit pay attention to where the waistline will hit on your body, the type of material (the stretchier the better), and what it looks like from behind.  Sometimes adding a jacket or cardigan can create a more flattering silhouette.

LOUNGE WEAR

Does lounge wear really need explaining?  I love to be comfy at all times, ESPECIALLY when I’m pregnant and afterwards.  I like to buy comfy clothes during my pregnancy that will be easy to transition to the postpartum stage.  So nursing friendly picks are an absolute must! A little tip if you don’t want to necessarily buy “maternity” lounge wear:  size up and give yourself room to grow and room to be comfortable after the baby comes when your body is a little out of whack.

MATERNITY SKIRTS

Maternity skirts accentuate my baby bump in a very flattering and slimming way, which I love.  They are easy to dress up or dress down depending on how you style them.  If I’m going out somewhere nice I like to dress them up with a fancier shirt and heels.  But I can also make my maternity skirts into the ultimate momiform when paired with a fun graphic tee (rolled up or tucked in to keep the look flattering) and some sneakers.  There are so many fun options out there to choose from!

ACCESSORIES

Accessories are a fun way to liven up any outfit!  They also won’t break your heart by being too tight.  I like to find a few key pieces that can be easily rotated through multiple outfit options in my pregnancy capsule.  Headbands, big earrings, or a fun hat are simple options that easily transition across multiple outfits.  Lastly, invest in some comfy shoes that can be worn through your entire pregnancy into postpartum.  Specifically shoes that are easy to put on and take off i.e. slip-ons, sneakers, and sandals.

Hopefully this helps you to feel a little more confident in what items to add to your pregnancy capsule wardrobe.  Remember to choose staple pieces that will flatter your body as it changes a million times over the next 9-18 months.
