Disneyland Tips for Families
Hey friends, if you follow along on Instagram you know that we went to Disneyland last week and had such a blast! To add to the fun, we also celebrated Lettie’s 6th birthday while we were there! This trip was one for the books and one we will never forget! I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous and worried about going to Disneyland at one of the BUSIEST times of the year! I was worried we wouldn’t be able to enjoy ourselves with the crazy lines and busy crowds. So yes, it was super busy. But HERE are my Disneyland tips for families that made it so much better than I ever remembered! They have an app called the MaxPass, it’s their FastPass but now on your phone! If you’ve ever used FastPass before, you have to go to the ride and physically get a ticket from the FastPass machine, then it tells you when to return back to that specific ride later that day. Now all you have to do is download the Disneyland App and get MaxPass! It saves you SO much time + keeps you organized — it’s a GAME CHANGER! Here is some helpful info about the MaxPass:
– It does cost $15 a person a day, but SO worth it (promise).
– You can’t buy the pass or lock down a time until everyone is in the park (they know because they scan your ticket in the app). So get there as early as you can! The earlier the better!
– Always request the busiest, most popular ride you want to go on first, then you can map out your day accordingly!
– There is a waiting period after you request a MaxPass on a ride before you can request the next ride. The app will tell you when you can request it (I think it’s like an hour later or something, but I”m not sure), so make sure to pay attention to that time so you can schedule as many of the most popular rides as possible.
– You can only purchase this pass on the Disneyland app!
The app also shows all of the estimated wait times for the rides, so we tried to hit all of the rides with the shorter lines in the morning so we could use our MaxPasses for all the most popular rides later in the day! FYI Star Wars Land opened a few months ago and is super busy and we weren’t allowed to use MaxPass for there. So I would suggest getting there as early as you can cause it gets CRAZY busy! We went on SO many rides and were able to go on all the rides we wanted thanks to the MaxPasses. I highly recommended getting it!
A lot of you asked me how to take a big family to Disney and not spend crazy amounts of money! Well, unless you know how to get cheaper tickets to the park (please tell if you do, haha), it’s not a cheap trip. But here are a few ways to save money!
- Get a cheaper hotel that is walking distance to Disneyland. You’ll do a lot of walking but won’t have to pay for parking, and we were NEVER in our room other than sleeping and getting ready in the morning. I love a higher end hotel but it’s not worth it at Disneyland because you’re at the park all day long. We have stayed here and here and they have been just fine + we saved a ton!
- Find a hotel that includes breakfast (especially if you have a big family). Food in the park is pricy and adds up! Plus we always like to find a hotel that has a hearty breakfast cause it’s a long day with a lot of walking!
- Take refillable water bottles for everyone. They have water filling stations throughout the park that we used all week and saved a ton of money by not buying water bottles at the park.
- They allow you to bring food into the park so you can pack a lunch. We have packed lunch in the past but didn’t this time (we love to splurge on food when we travel, haha). Depending on how many days you go, it can save hundreds of dollars.
- Bring TONS of snacks, for some reason everyone is so hungry at Disneyland. I blame it on all the walking 😉
As far as food goes, you can now make reservations ahead of time to the most popular restaurants on the app! You can also order any food in advance on the app! We did this for lunch while waiting in line for a ride and our lunch was ready for pickup once we got off. You wait in enough lines for rides so this is a great way to to avoid long lines for food! Here are some of our fav places for lunch and dinner.
- Blue Bayou (New Orleans Square) It’s the restaurant inside Pirates of the Caribbean.
- Plaza Inn (Main Street USA)
- Alien Pizza Planet (Tomorrowland)
- Carthay Circle Restaurant (California Adventure)
- Pacific Wharf Café (California Adventure) A little piece of San Fran- so of course I love it.
- Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill (California Adventure) the chips and gac is amazing.
- Lamplight Lounge (California Adventure)
- Bengal Barbecue (Adventureland)
- Black Tap (Downtown Disney) Get the shakes, the kids went bananas over these!
- Cafe Orleans
Last thing, and it seems obvious, but make sure everyone wears comfortable shoes! I spent a little more on my kids shoes and I was glad I did. They didn’t even complain despite the many miles we walked every day!
Thats it! We had such a blast and can’t wait to go back already! Most of this info works for Disney World too. I hope this was informative! Thanks for stopping by! xx,
LaTisha
